Rules of IYPT – Brazil – 2005
 
About the Tournament
1. The IYPT - Brazil - 2005 (IYPT-BR) is the non-governmental organization without lucrative ends whose purpose is to divulge the INTERNATIONAL YOUNG PHYSICISTS ' TOURNAMENT (IYPT) in Brazil and to select and to prepare a teams of Brazilian students for the tournament, that occurs annually in a different country of the world.

2. The organization of the IYPT in Brazil is under responsibility of the Ozzy & Böhmer Educational Projects.

3. The IYPT was created in 1979 for professors of the Department of Physics of the University of Moscow, Russia, integrant country of the old Soviet Union, with the purpose to develop a different competition of the traditional Olimpíads ones.

4. Besides stimulating the interest of the students for the Physics, the objectives of the IYPT are to develop the independent and critical thought and to stimulate the investigativo and colaborativo work. For this, they are considered by the International Board of the tournament, 17 open problems of investigativa nature to be debated, studied and decided to the long one of the year that precedes the international tournament.

5. The problems of the tournament can be considered by any person of any country and are selected in seminaries of the national coordinators of the IYPT ("chaimen") immediately after the accomplishment of the international tournament. These problems must enclose all the areas of the Physics and must develop the creativity, the concentration, the inductive and deductive reasoning, the ability to construct hypotheses, the capacity of comment, analysis arguments, formularization of hypotheses, establishment of relations of cause and effect, as well as the respect to other opinions.

6. For the nature of the problems, the tournament also stimulates the development of the leadership capacity, to work in team, to divide responsibilities and to manage conflicts, beyond the improvement of the abilities of verbal communication and writing, as much in the Portuguese Language as in the English Language.

Participation

7. Students can participate who are registered until the last series of average education.

8. To participate the students the five integrant ones must be organized in three teamses.

9. The teamses can be heterogeneous, being able to be registered in schools and different series, since that they do not exceed the maximum number of five integrant ones.

10. Each teams must choose an integrant one to be its leader, which will be called "captain the teams". The captain must be integrant the most experienced one and with recognized together leadership to the group. It will be the link of communication with the coordination of the tournament and will be responsible for the teams.

Inscription

11. The registration of the teams will have to be made by the site of the IYPT - Brazil - www.iyptbrasil.org.

12. The registration will be considered valid only after the sending of the voucher of the payment of the tax of registration (of all the teams) for the Coordination of IYPT - BR and the publication of the relation of the teamses and its integrant ones in the site of the tournament.

13. To participate each integrant one of the teams it will have to pay one tax of registration in the value of R$ 13,00 (thirteen Reals), in case that she is student of public school (municipal, state or federal); R$ 18,00 (eighteen Reals), case is student of cooperative school or foundation; e R$ 25,00 (twenty and five Reals), in the case of student of particular school.

14. The registration can be made by the captain of the teams, a tutor (responsible for the teams, for example, a familiar one, a professor, a friend etc), or by the school.

15. It does not have limit for the number of enrolled teamses for school.

16, Alterations in the formation of the teams must be requested for email for info@iyptbrasil.org with the antecedence maximum.

17. In desistance case, the paid taxes will not be returned and will be entered as donations for IYPT - BR

Regional Tournament

18. All the enrolled teamses will be able to participate of the Regional tournamentes that will occur (vide calendar) during the March month.

19. Each teams will have to choose SEVEN (seven) of the 17 problems of the tournament.

20. The relation of places where the regional tournamentes will be carried through will be divulged up to 17 of February of 2005. The resolution of one of the chosen problems will have to be presented in the format of panel mounted in posters totalizing, in the maximum, a square meter of area. 21. Beyond the panel, the teams will be able to take other materials (computers, experiments, mockups etc) that they are necessary for the good understanding of the resolution of the selected problem.

22. The busy total space for the presentation of each teams will not have to exceed 80 cm of depth, 150 cm of width and 2,8 height m (of the soil to the top of the project, mockup or presented experiment).

23. The local organization of the Regional tournament of the Iypt-br will place to the disposal of the teamses a small table and a taking for electric connection.

24. The teams will have to choose one of the seven decided problems to present in the panel and will have to supply two copies in paper, A4 format, duly bound of the resolution of the same problem the jury of the Regional tournament.

25. The teams also will have to deliver to the jury of the Regional tournament a copy bound in paper, A4 format, of the resolution of the others six chosen problems. Annexes in CD-ROM or VHS video will not be accepted. The resolution of these problems also will be used in the evaluation of the teams.

26. The teamses will be evaluated by jury formed for professors and researchers invited by Local the Organizador Committee, as well as for students of graduation and invited after-graduation and for student-commission agents indicated for the enrolled schools.

27. The result of the Regional tournament will be divulged in the proper day, immediately after the closing of the presentations to the judges

The Brazillian Tournament

28. A report of the results of each carried through Regional tournament in the some regions of the country will be sent to the National Coordination of the Iypt-br for the choice of the half-finalistas teamses for the National tournament.

29. The National tournament of the IYPT - Brazil will be carried through in the campus of the SÃO PAULO UNIVERSITY, in Campinas, State of São Paulo, in the period of 14 the 16 of April of 2005.

30. The half-finalistas teamses will have to present the solution of ten problems, amongst dezessete, during the National tournament.

31. The National tournament will be organized in intitled sessions "Physics Fights", in which three or four teamses will debate the resolutions found for the chosen problems. (He makes download of the presentation in attached PowerPoint to understand the Physics Fights better)

32. Each session of "Physics Fights" will have the duration of three or four hours, depending on the number of teamses. Each session will be divided in three or four periods of training ("rounds"). In each one of the periods of training, each teams will play a different role: opponent, reporter, copyholder or observer.

33. The paper of the opponent is to defy the teams reporter to present the resolution of one definitive problem, arguing the presented solution.

34. The paper of the teams reporter will be to present the resolution found for the problem defied for the opponent teams.

35. The teams reporter can reject up to 7 problems without damages in its punctuation and can use the necessary resources for the presentation of its resolution (presentation in PowerPoint, transparencies, videos, mockups, experiments, photos, films, demonstrations, tables, graphs, projects etc).

36. The revisory teams will have to evaluate the performance of the teams reporter and opponent.

37. The observing teams, in the sessions with four teamses, will not have active function.

38. The teamses will be evaluated by a jury formed for professors, researchers, students of special graduation and after-graduation and for guests. The notes will be announced public to the end of each period of training of the Physics Fight.

39. The finalistas teamses will be announced in the morning of day 16 of April, Saturday.

40. The finalistas teamses will debate its resolutions during day 16 of April, and in the end of this day, the FIVE winning teamses of the IYPT - Brazil will be announced.

The Brazillian team to IYPT – 2005 – Switzerland

41. The jury of the National tournament will indicate two names of each winning teams for the election of the national teams.

42. The Final Selective tournament will occur in April ,17 sunday, in the Institute of Physics Gleb Wataghin of the State University of Campinas - Unicamp.

43. The jury of the Final Selective tournament will be presided over by chairman of IYPT-Brazil and formed by researchers and students of doutorado and mestrado of the Ifgw-unicamp.

44. The national teams will be formed by only one student of each one of the winning teamses and will be announced in the end of the Final Selective tournament.
